Q&A

Q1. What is the wiring like in the power cord set?
The wiring is as shown in the figure below.
The figure shows the plug and connector as seen from the face side.

(For Japan or North America)

Live : Black or brown
Neutral : White, light blue, or red
Ground : Green/yellow

(For Europe)

Live : Brown
Neutral : Light blue
Ground : Green/yellow
Q2. What is the rating of a cord set whose plug and connector have different rated currents?
The plug and connector may have different rated currents for reasons such as certification.
In that case, whichever is the smaller rated current is the current of the cord set. Also, while the rated voltage of the wire may be higher than those of the plug and connector depending on the certification and model, the lower voltage value is used for the cord set.
Q3. How can I identify the type name of a power cord?
A. Our power cords are of the integrally molded type. The model name “VM****” is used as the type name.
The format is “VM0233-VM0089 (length) m (color)”. This helps you identify rough specifications.
Q4. Is there any limit to the power cord length?
Yes. The resistance of a wire increases in proportion to the length.
For example, the maximum allowable length of a UL product for North America is 15.2 m. As for special specifications, consult with us separately.
Q5. The power cords for North America have the same shape as those for Japan. Can I use them in Japan, too?
The act of using a power cord certified by a North American standard (UL or CSA) for an electrical appliance for the Japanese market violates the Electrical Appliances and Materials Safety Act. Do not perform such an act. Also, do not use a power cord whose plug shape is for markets other than Japan for an electrical appliance for the Japanese market. Only power cords compliant with the Electrical Appliances and Materials Safety Act can be used in Japan.
Q6. Can I export a conversion plug (adapter) compliant with the Electrical Appliances and Materials Safety Act to abroad, bundle it with a power cord set, and reimport it to Japan?
Each of our conversion plugs (adapters) made in Japan or China has “PSE JET HEWTECH” shown on it according to the Electrical Appliances and Materials Safety Act. “HEWTECH” indicates that we (Hirakawa Hewtech Corp.) are the manufacturer (in Japan) or the importer (in China) under this law. If you import such a conversion plug (adapter) from abroad, bundled with equipment or as a standalone product, with this indication on it (the term “import” also refers to “reverse import” of a Japanese-made product from abroad and “reimport” of a Chinese-made product), you will be deemed as the importer under the Electrical Appliances and Materials Safety Act and be required to indicate your name as the importer (e.g., company name) on the conversion plug (adapter). Therefore, if you import and sell the conversion plug (adapter) with PSE JET HEWTECH” shown on it, you will be blamed for violating the above-mentioned law as the importer under this law.
